I've just listed my lovely Dog and Duck pieces. They were both in the Abracadabra show in November, with Claire Platt and Cindy Jaswal, and now they are ready to be set free into the world via Etsy. Click on the images to find out how to buy them. They were really hard to photograph because the sun/my reflection kept bouncing off them. I'm going to try again another day to get better, less dusty images (they don't look dusty in real life but the camera ha s picked out invisible dust).

Goodbye little one
This little creature is on it's way to a new home tomorrow- my first sale from my new shop. I had my suspicions that this would be the first to fly the nest, people do love deer so. Hopefully some of the figurines might find themselves new homes as well. Next week I shall be adding these little boxed creatures to the shop:

You can't tell too well in these photos but one box has a gold dog in and the other a gold duck. Until then I have to concentrate on Uni work and see if I can last the week without too many tears!

Well, today's the day I open up my new shop over on Etsy. I decided I wanted to keep my sculpture/ceramics/drawing/painting/embroidery seperate from the badges and zines of my Made by Milla shop, and so CamillaStacey.etsy.com has been born.
I'll be adding items to it over the next few days, but at the moment there's a handful of my re-glazed ceramic pieces available. Between now and the 12th January there's 15% off any orders, and for you lucky blog readers there's a further 5% off if you just enter the words 'um bongo' in the message to seller box. This all means you could be taking home this little lovely for only $24 (£12)

Each of my golden creatures has been made using a found object that i've re-glazed with a gold lustre, sometimes the objects have been re-glazed up to three times.

Golden Creatures
When i'm not busy ranting, i'm busy turning things golden. I've just taken a whole bunch of photos of my little golden creations and uploaded them onto Flickr, in preparation for phase one of CamillaStacey.etsy.com (coming on Saturday). I make a glib comment about them that I just 'make things go gold', but in reality there's much more to it than just a matter of changing colour.
On the one hand there's the actual physical process, using a gold lustre glaze, which is painted onto found ceramic objects by hand and then fired in a kiln; and on the other hand there is the thought behind the process.
I talked a little about this at the informal 'lecture' that took place at the opening of the exhibition in November, and it's something I need to keep coming back to and examining for myself, because I do think that I run the risk of just making things gold for the sake of it if I don't keep thinking about what I'm doing.
Each piece is unique, I spend my spare time hunting for these pieces in a quest to make them precious again. I am fascinated by the way that objects gain and lose meaning and importance throughout their lives, and by re-glazing them all with a uniform gold lustre I aim to make them special again. I love the fact that some of the objects I use are essentially junk before I glaze them, whilst others are high quality ceramics that I run the risk of devaluing by re-glazing them- under my glaze everything becomes unified and has the same value.
This is very much a work in progress, I find it hard to articulate the reasons for some of the things I do, so i'm sure i'll be revisiting this again and again over the next year.
