art+power at the Spike open Studios

Peter Sutton - 4 Nudes with Names

I work as a volunteer creative mentor for art+power, and this
weekend as part of the Spike Open Studios the art+power
artists will be opening up their work space too:

The studio will be open to the public from 11 to 6 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 5th, 6th and 7th of May.

Come along and meet artists taking part in PASS art + power's ground-breaking (Professional Artists Support Scheme). 12 visual artists have spent the last 7 months working in their own dedicated studio space to prepare their works for exhibition. You will be able to see art + power's studio in action as artists work towards an exhibition in July. The completed works will be on show at Centrespace gallery in Bristol City Centre from July 6th to 13th

You will also be able to take part in art + power's latest project. We invite you to join us on an exciting creative journey through the arts. Throughout 2007 we will be exploring the power of art through writing, visual art and performance. All this work will lead to a key arts event in December 2007. This will be the first annual showcase event celebrating the empowering potential of the arts. Visitors will be able to contribute to this project during our Open Studios event and again at our July exhibition.

Finally, applications will shortly be open for the 2007 PASS scheme. The PASS scheme is a year long course that acts as a springboard for the careers of disabled and socially excluded artists, actors and writers. Each artist has their own creative mentor and benefits from the high quality support and tuition offered by this unique scheme. Come along to Open Studios to find out more or call us on 0117 9468630.

I'll be going along on Saturday to take a look around all the studios, in previous years that work produced by art+power has been my favorite, and in the past I came very close to buying a piece. This year I definitely won't be buying, but it will be good to see the work of my mentees up on the studio walls.
