P is for

P is for Mark Pawson

Mark Pawson flier

Fortuitous timing means that I reach 'P' in the alphabet in the same week as the new show by Mark Pawson opens at the gallery:

The great Mark Pawson, self-confessed image junkie, photocopier fetishist & semi-retired International Postal Art Superstar will be opening his exhibition 'Handmade, Readymade, Lazercut' with a preview on Thursday 6 September from 6-9.

Come and join us for drinks and Mark will show you how to make an exciting object to take home with you!

I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll do with the gallery space, so much so that i've volunteered to go in and work on Thursday, just to make sure i'm there for the opening preview!

P is for Jane Porter

Jane is my best friend, and is a hugely talented artist/film maker/project manager/accessories wearer. Last year she had a residency at the Beacon Arts Project and one in Oakland. This year she is mainly encouraging people to 'Get Fit You Kunst!!' by playing rounders matches with various arts groups as part of an effort to raise the profile of Spike Associates. (if you want to play rounders against the associates then head over to GFYK!!) Jane made Relay, an audio walking tour of Stokes Croft in Bristol which features interviews with a bunch of different artists, and her film 'Stolen Sorrow' won the best newcomer prize at the Halloween film festival. Jane is also the most stylish human being i've ever met.

Anna Peach works from the Golden Egret studio, an ever moving place that is currently located somewhere in the North Atlantic. I know very little about Anna, other than the fact I love her blog as the images and words she uses are so evocative. I like the idea of this girl hopping from one island to another, making work that connects with the land and sea.
