On Wednesday Chris Gilvan-Cartwright was a visiting lecturer and I wanted to share some of his paintings with you.

Something about his work reminded me of Camille Rose Garcia, and maybe Mark Ryden too- the appropriation of kitsch childrens toys, combined with the sometimes dark, sometimes mysterious feel of his paintings. He talked a lot about combining layers of ideas and imagery, and of pretending to be a Regency Dandy (or maybe I just made that bit up). I left feeling like I wanted to paint again, which is always a good thing.

Those paintings are wonderful- very atmospheric.
My bathroom is a colour called 'Dead Salmon' by farrow and ball- yes, it really is! UK company, I can get you a shade card and post it if you can't get hold of one.
